Kreuzberg and Surroundings Wassertorstr. 20/21

Kreuzberg: Diverse, international, authentic. This is how you could describe the Berlin quarter in the southern center of the capital. There is a reason why the district of Friedrichshain- Kreuzberg, famous far beyond the borders of Berlin, established itself as one of the favored residential areas for many trend-conscious metropolitans. As a melting-pot for the creative milieu, Kreuzberg has become the home of artists, students, clubs, international offices and startups.

Correspondingly, the beloved district has an urban and cultural character: cafés and restaurants offering international cuisine are situated right next to museums and art exhibitions; and the nightlife is just as well established in this area of the city, with its concert halls, bars, and clubs.

Gastronomy

Many culinary institutions have either settled in Kreuzberg or were even founded here. Whether typical Berlin specialities like Curry 36's Currywurst or a Döner at Mustafas Gemüse Kebap, great pizza or exotic delicacies, extravagant fusion cuisines or lovingly furnished cafés - the gastronomic offers are as varied as its guests. Weekly markets and the famous Marthalle 9 invite you to feast, the bars for a drink in the evening, and, for a quick bite, you will find a stall with delicious food-to-go just around the corner.

Cultural Entertainment

Museums, galleries, dance bars, flea markets, "Kiez" parties, ... the cultural entertainment is as rich and multifaceted, the likes of which can barely be seen in any other district of Berlin. While the entire capital seems to be meeting on legendary street festivals to celebrate together for a few hours or days, some hidden hotspots are only known to the longterm residents of Kreuzberg.

Families will also find a wonderful home in Kreuzberg. Daycare centers, primary and secondary schools, as well as many beautiful playgrounds and attractive green spaces and parks make the district a great place to live for both the young and old.

Infrastructure and Public Transport

However, Kreuzberg's cultural entertainment is not the only magnet for its diverse audience, but also its urban location. A stone panel between Wassertorplatz and the Jewish Museum marks the geographical center of Berlin.

Accordingly, all the focal points of everyday life are available in abundance. Pharmacies, medical practices, and hospitals, as well as numerous department stores are never more than a few minutes walk away.

The connection to other Berlin districts is also excellent. Public transport is within walking distance from every corner and several underground stations - in the immediate vicinity are the subway stations Prinzenstraße with the lines U1 and U3 and Moritzplatz with the line U8 - and bus lines ensure an ideal connection to surrounding city centers such as the Warschauer Straße in the East or the Kurfürstendamm in the West.

In the heart of Kreuzberg, near the emblem of the geographical center of Berlin and situated between Wassertorplatz and Lobeckstraße, runs the more than 500 meters long Wassertorstraße. Named after the now no longer existent water gate in the buried Luisenstädtischer canal, a former customs station for merchant ships to pass through the city walls, the street has been on Berlin city maps since April 7, 1849, under the same name.
